Backstory

Tasnica was born and raised on a world isolated from most of the multiverse. While the planet appears earthlike, it is regulated and stabilized by "magical" energies which are divided into eight elements. The human societies on the planet are primarily monarchal, with medieval-era technology complemented by the ability to manipulate the elemental energies native to the world.

Tasnica, the name the character goes by, is actually his surname. This is due to the fact that he is a cousin to the royal family of, appropriately enough, the kingdom of Tasnica. This guaranteed him a position in the renowned Knights of Tasnica at a young age, resulting in him being mockingly referred to as "Sir Tasnica" early in his career. Despite this, he became a decent swordsman and earned the respect of his fellow knights. This part of his life came crashing down after the kingdom suffered a devastating defeat at the hands of a rival kingdom of orcs, which resulting in the deaths of many knights and their families. Sir Tasnica survived, but was left with the burden of seeing so many close to him sacrifice themselves so that he could live. Deciding that he was unworthy of knighthood, he left everything behind and set out into the world to seek out a way of redeeming himself.

Tasnica's travels eventually brought him into contact with the forgotten spirit of an ancient, evil entity. Attempting to possess the young warrior and use him as a stepping stone toward regaining its long-lost power, the entity was only partially successful in attaching itself to a fragment of Tasnica's personality. Their struggle damaged the barrier between dimensions, creating a portal which cast Tasnica and the entity across the multiverse and stranded them on a near-twin of the Tandy dimension. His memory temporarily lost, Tasnica had faint recollections of his days as a knight and referred to himself as "Sir Tasnica" or simply "Tasnica" from then on. The entity, meanwhile, masqueraded as a part of Tasnica's personality. Over the next year, Tasnica befriended and had many adventures with the inhabitants of "Tandy" and various visitors to that world. In the process, he unwittingly acquired the title and powers of the Elementalist of Earth. This, ultimately, set the stage for his departure from the Tandy universe.

One day, the entity seized upon Tasnica's Earth Elementalist powers and claimed them for itself, using them to take control of Tasnica entirely and trap him in a pocket dimension. Tasnica, however, managed to engage the entity in battle after it separated from him into a physical body of its own. Tasnica emerged victorious, losing his Earth powers but regaining his memory and independence. Realizing that his friends in Tandy had moved on despite his absence, Tasnica decided to leave Tandy behind and set out into the multiverse.

For the next two years, Tasnica explored countless dimensions as he sought out his homeworld. In the process, he greatly grew in strength and acquired a set of the elemental stones common to his homeworld and similar worlds. Mastering their use, he utilized them to emerge victorious in the Interdimensional Tournament which took place in yet another "Tandy". Afterward, he became convinced that the tournament had some sort of dimensional significance. Infiltrating the tournament headquarters and battlefields used by the tournament the following year, he discovered an interdimensional barrier which was powered by the residual energies of those who participated in the tournaments. Convincing himself that penetrating the barrier would allow him to reach his isolated home dimension, Tasnica began seeking out participants in the tournaments in order to defeat them and therefore gain the ability to simulate their energy signatures, or auras, and force open a hole in the barrier.

Recently, Tasnica forged an alliance with two other warriors, Hale and Daracaex. In addition to allowing him to enter a new, team tournament, Tasnica believes that the pact forged with his new allies will allow him to attain further auras from those they defeat. The three call themselves the Blazing Knights, and Tasnica considers the formation of the group to be a formal restoration of his status of knighthood. "Sir Tasnica" is once again a proper name for him to refer to himself by, although he retains a fondness for simply "Tasnica".

Abilities

Techniques

Tasnica can channel energy into his sword, shield, or just about any metallic object with which he is familiar. The source of energy for Techniques is his own stamina, although through practice he has become quite efficient at directing this energy. Thus, Tasnica's capacity for using Techniques generally lasts for the duration of his fights. Techniques include unleashing energy attacks in various shapes and patterns, deflecting magical energies, and absorbing said energies. Absorbed energy can be used to replenish Tasnica's stamina and heal his wounds, or used to power further Techniques at no cost to the knight.

Elemental Stone Manipulation

Tasnica's signature ability. Tasnica possesses eight stones which are infused with elemental energy. As the stones are native to his home dimension and variations thereof, Tasnica had some training in their use during his early years as a knight. Extensive training and practice in more recent years have granted Tasnica near mastery at manipulating the surprising amount of energy contained within the stones. Not only can he use each stone to manipulate its corresponding element, but he can also combine stones to create powerful bi-elemental or tri-elemental attacks. Such attacks quickly drain the stones, however. Alternatively, Tasnica can absorb a single stone into any object through which he could perform Techniques. In addition to retaining the ability to manipulate elemental energies, the object will take on properties of the infused element. Stones can also be absorbed into objects that Tasnica cannot perform Techniques with, on the condition that the object already has a compatibility with the absorbed stone. For example, Tasnica can absorb a Water Stone into a block of ice, despite the fact that he couldn't perform Techniques with the ice if he used it as a weapon.

To use a stone's abilities, Tasnica needs to maintain some sort of contact with it. The most efficient way to do so is to to simply hold the stone or the object it is absorbed into. Tasnica can also utilize stones when connected to them through a solid medium. For example, Tasnica can activate a stone on the floor by touching the floor nearby, or use a stone in his pocket without touching it. This isn't as efficient, and Tasnica's concentration is taxed when he tries to use too many stones at once. Recently, Tasnica has also displayed the ability to "program" stones to perform a specific function or series of functions even when he is not in contact with them. The drawback to this is that he cannot alter the "programmed" function without either retrieving the stone or transmitting commands to it through energy projectiles.

If a stone is significantly damaged, the remaining energy within will burst out in an explosion. Fully-charged stones are known to be capable of vaporizing an area the size of a small bus and sending out a shock wave to damage an even larger area. Luckily for Tasnica, he has easy access to a world where he can mine replacement stones.

Auramancy

Tasnica can simulate the auras, or essences, of powerful beings that he has defeated in battle. Forcing an opponent to exert him or herself but not defeating them, or having a proxy win a battle for him, grants Tasnica a lesser mastery of the contested aura. Tasnica can use mastered auras to disguise his presence from those capable of sensing auras, and to obtain access to locations warded by aura.

Upon reaching a certain threshold of mastered auras, Tasnica attained the ability to locate and identify them when he concentrates. Before, he could only tell whether or not such energies were present. Interestingly, the elemental stones are quite adept at distinguishing auras, a feature that the knight can exploit when he programs them.

Recently, Tasnica's auramancy has entered a new phase. He has now mastered so many auras that his body seems to actually attract them under certain conditions. What this means, effectively, is that those who fight against Tasnica actually have a portion of their essense ripped from them upon the conclusion of the battle. This results in a brief sensation of weakness and emptyness, which can last as long as a day or two if the battle was particularly long and intense. Interestingly, this seems to have no impact on how easily Tasnica masters auras. A loss still results in a lessened mastery.

At the present time, Tasnica can still only pinpoint and identify auras under a level of concentration that would require a lull in battle. He can, however, now detect general aura concentrations on a real-time basis. This gives him a "sixth sense" of sorts against attacks that are fueled by the energies of his opponent.

Other Abilities

After defeating the entity, Tasnica discovered that he could travel from one dimension to another by utilizing the intersection and overlapping of dimensions. Whether this is an innate ability of his, a power absorbed from the entity which Tasnica defeated, or the effect of a dimensional crystal which Tasnica possesses is unknown. Regardless, the level of concentration necessary to use this ability makes it unlikely that Tasnica will ever use it in battle.

Equipment

Sword

Tasnica's sword is a long, simple blade constructed from mithril. Similar in appearance to silver, mithril is light and incredibly strong. It has also proven an excellent medium for containing elemental energies, as Tasnica has discovered. His sword dates back from late in his original career as a knight, but despite this Tasnica doesn't feel any particular connection to the blade beyond its familiarity and utility. It does not have a name.

Shield

Tasnica also possesses a shield which he occasionally brings into battle. Like his sword, it is made of mithril and can absorb elemental stones. The shield is shaped like a kite, and bears the symbol of his kingdom: a "T" over a compass rose. Tasnica has had the shield magically enchanted to strap itself to his back at will, allowing him wield it or put it away quickly.

Armor

Like his sword and shield, Tasnica's armor is made from mithril. It is a light suit of plate armor, providing excellent protection with considerably less encumbrance than its steel equivalent. That being said, wearing armor somewhat reduces Tasnica's speed and agility. It also makes directly levitating himself with the Wind Stone more difficult, though this limitation can be avoided by using solid objects as platforms. For this reason, Tasnica generally only wears armor in battles which he feel require added defense.

Elemental Stones

Tasnica carries eight elemental stones which are attached to his belt. These are:

Dark Stone

This stone can emit energy (generally in the form of a ball or a beam) which drains energy/stamina from any living thing it comes into contact with and transmits it to Tasnica. Tasnica can also use the stone to detect incorporeal objects. Although the stone cannot create smoke, acid, and poison without the aid of another stone, it can manipulate these as well.

Earth Stone

Tasnica can use this stone to move or otherwise manipulate objects composed of dirt, rock, sand, and similar substances. While it cannot affect living matter on its own, combining the Earth Stone with other stones often grants Tasnica the ability to do so.

Fire Stone

This stone can create and control magical flames, and can manipulate naturally-occurring fire as well. Tasnica can also use it to heat up objects and/or the air around them. Thanks to training from Hale, Tasnica can now refresh and even heal himself and others using heat and flames.

Light Stone

This stone can emit concentrated energy for offensive purposes, and with greater accuracy than most other stones. Tasnica can also use the stone to heal himself or other living creatures, as well as bend light to make himself appear somewhere he is not.

Lightning Stone

This stone can emit and control electrical energy. It can also strongly magnetize itself and other metals and reverse their polarities.

Moon Stone

This stone can transmit its energy into any location within Tasnica's line of sight, allowing him, for example, to create a ball of energy above an opponent and drop it on them.

Water Stone

This stone can emit hydrogen dioxide molecules (water) in liquid form. It can then manipulate this water or existing water regardless of its current state, and can also heat or cool water into its solid, liquid, and gaseous forms.

Wind Stone

Arguably Tasnica's favorite stone, and perhaps his most versatile. This stone can manipulate gasses, including air, and by doing so can move other objects as well. This includes levitation, which can be done either through using wind as a kinetic force or by creating localized differences in pressure. More direct attacks can be performed by "punching" opponents with concentrated bursts of air. In addition, Tasnica can extend his senses through the stone to enhance his hearing and "feel" invisible objects.

Blood Stone

Tasnica has recently acquired this ninth stone from an unknown benefactor. The stone receives a charge whenever Tasnica suffers blood loss, and he can use that energy to manipulate his own blood. Elemental energies can be channeled through lost blood by combining other stones with the Blood Stone, creating significant threats to unwary opponents.

The stones may have other attributes beyond those listed above. Tasnica has either yet to discover these attributes or simply hasn't revealed them in battle yet.

Belt

Tasnica's current belt is a gift from an unknown benefactor, but Tasnica has modified it to perform more or less the same function as his old one. Elemental stones stick to the belt, but can be easily removed by Tasnica. Should a stone become damaged or otherwise unstable, it will fall off as a safety precaution. Another safety feature is that Tasnica cannot manipulate stones while they are on his belt unless he touches them directly. This is designed to avoid the accidental use of stones, as stones on Tasnica's belt are technically close enough for him to control indirectly. Tasnica's Blood Stone came socketed into the belt buckle, and it is unknown whether it can be removed.

Other Equipment

Tasnica has several other possessions which he occasionally brings along when traveling or exploring, including a shape-shifting Cloak of Magic Resistance and a collapsible Backpack of Near Infinite Holding. Tasnica has yet to use these and other possessions in battle, preferring to reserve them for non-combat purposes. Several of these have recently proven useful in his espionage work within the Tournament Headquarters.
