How They Work

It is a testament to the ingenuity of the human race that The Enchanter has, in fact, found a way to consciously access the tremendous power that they are bound to.

Blood is highly symbolic, and intensely magical. It is a well-known fact that vampires do not drink blood because of its physical contents, but because of the fact that it has an iron connection with the life-force of the person it belongs to. Vampires drink blood because it allows them to suck out life-force, which, being undead, they need to survive, and blood is used in spells where some of the casters very own life-energy must be used to boost the power of the spell. Enchanters exploit the connection blood has with life, and a sufficiently brave Enchanter can use it to create something most commonly called a rune. A rune is a symbol drawn in blood, and it is used by the Enchanter to form a connection between the conscious mind and the unconscious would of Ætheric control. The shape of the rune drawn denotes what its function is. Designs vary from Enchanter to Enchanter, but the design itself has no real influence upon its function; it is entirely a visual aid. These runes allow Enchanters to create astounding things, re-enforcing objects with magic, changing the shape of matter and even manipulating its position in space. This display of power is above anything even the most practiced magic-user can summon today.

Vulnerability and Activation

Once activated, a rune is basically impossible to destroy without breaking either thing thing it is drawn on or overloading the actual spell. The former is much more feasible, as runes commonly deal with millions of terrathaums' worth of magic anyway.

the Alpha and the Omega

The most dangerous runes existing are the Alpha and the Omega.

With the Alpha, an Enchanter or anyone who controls his or her Runes may create anything in any fashion and in any state, provided that the required amount of magic can be accessed to do so. A vast amount of creation would take a vast amount of energy. This rune takes advantage of the fact that Enchantments have a huge power source, and it's limits are not, as of yet, known.

The Omega is the darker of the two, having the power to destroy anything completely, including it's effects on the world. This rune can eradicate the very memory of something from the minds of the world, leaving no indication it ever existed. It can be used in lesser ways, turning areas into Nothing or simply un-making something, breaking down it's very atoms.

The Legion and the Union

Among the most curious of runes, this pair are among the most recent runes created. These were originally created by Roon for the sole purpose of dividing his soul in an attempt to free himself from his 'curse'. He failed, and only succeeded in creating a duplicate from a stray life that had been torn free: that of Rette Konn
