The Orion Device is a pulsed magic energy redirection unit recovered from [--Data Removed--]. It allows for limited use of magic, as well as energy collection and redistribution. The only known device is currently in the Possession of one Corporal Richard 'Rip' Thorn, aka the man who defeated the OmegaClawe anomoly.

Appearance

External

The Orion Device is manifested as two disk-shaped Cabochon gems, one crimson placed upon the palm of the user, and one saffire, positioned at the base of the neck. A heavy duty wire made of an unknown material extends from the backside of the subject's elbow to his shoulder.

Internal

Full tissue scans reveal that the wire extends through the arm to the disk at the palm, and through the shoulder to the disk at the neck's base. This wire has proven heavily resistant to damage and scanning. It also connects to a 'black box' of some sort behind the neck disk, which exudes tendrils of the same material into the brain. More information may come available upon the eventual autopsy of the subject, but explorative surgery is too risky at this time.

Effects

The Orion device, even while inactive, provides a significant amount of tensile strength to both the arm and neck, preventing bone breakages in those areas, and all but making the subject immune to concussions, but confers little else towards physical defensive advantages. The major active effect is that it allows the subject--a man who previously showed virtually no connection to magic--to use a significant amount of magical energies in simple ways. The subject has displayed a high proficiency in energy manipulation, allowing for fire, electrical, and shielding magic use, but has not shown signs of advanced magic; however, it is theorized that a sufficiently trained user could preform such feats. The device also allows for a minor amount of energy absorption, but only where the energy is in contact with one of the two gem stones. Very large amounts of energy cannot be absorbed even by this, but it can absorb up to 1 Whitley*/second, or 5 per second if pulsed. The device holds a maxiumum charge of 150WT, but either it or the subject cannot convert the energy at full efficiency, and spells tend to require 50% more energy than through natural means.

  • The Whitley(WT) is a unit of measurement for magical energies equal to the amount of energy required to create a 6in fireball. It is named for the great Sir Charles Whitley, the first public magister and the first to do significant work on the basic Laws of Magic.
