It's fun to juggle fire, isn't it?.

Appearance

Alex is just an normal human, with olive skin, messy black hair and brown eyes. He is slightly tall for his age and quite skinny. Of course, this might just be from too much time spent travelling without having much food to eat. Alex normally wears casual clothes, though always of a tougher variety such as jeans, fatigues or durable jackets.

Backstory

Alex was originally from Earth, but has spent the last few years travelling around to other worlds after encountering another being who taught him how to create portals between worlds, as well as the basics of magic. Alex has spent the last few years doing the one thing most fantasy fans would give their left legs for-travelling to different worlds whilst learning how to use magic.

Abilities

Magic, though strangely enough, all of said magic appears to be confined to within the realms of the laws of physics. Alex's most common combat spells often vary depending on the battle, but some of the more regular ones consist of balls of destructive energy, temporary blades that are almost full of empty air but have edges hardened by magic, as well as a common tendency to phase through solid objects.

In fact, Alex is technically not a mage: He manipulates matter on the small scale, causing and controlling chemical reactions and manipulating substances, like being telekinetic on the molecular scale. How that translates into the actual effects he uses.....well some of that is overly complex and the rest is unavoidable pseudoscience. A lot of energy for these reactions comes from himself or around himself (battery packs, etc.) so nearly all attacks have to come from near himself. You know, unless the opponent has a pile of reactive materials at their feet...

Common Techniques

Energy Blasts: Alex can use these, but he doesn't. They're draining but effective, making them best for intimidation. Being slapped around by invisible shoves is freaky.

Fireballs: Exactly What It Says On The Tin. Take hardly any energy to start, but require more energy to sustain once the surrounding oxygen is gone, unless they're moving in which case they have plenty. Takes a little bit of Carbon, but hey, that's easy enough to get ahold of-but it does mean that what Carbon isn't used in sustaining a fireball in transit is used in a little bang at the target-meaning it's weaker at longer range.

Air blades: Blades of air that require some initial energy for motion, and use themselves up for propulsion. They don't last forever, but last longer than fireballs and are quite manueverable. Look like disturbances in the air and do make some noise generally.

Air needles:Same theory as above but reduced mass, making them less noticeable and more long-lasting. Blades hurt more, obviously.

Phasing: One of the most draining things Alex frequently does. Is interfered with by straight-up energy in most forms, though kinetic energy not so much. Is definitely the biggest asset in the arsenal of a coward who likes to poke fun at his opponents. You can tell he was taught by a chicken.

Metal-covering: Alex forms metal coverings that coat his arms or whole body or whatever and form a nifty bit of 'tin-can armour in a can'.

Chemical reactions: This is Alex's Wildcard-an ability than can turn the tide in battle or be completely useless and downright harmful. It wouldn't be a first for him to take some chemicals into battle for a nifty little reaction. Some reactions require energy, others give it off and can be quite useful as either a pick me up or a charge for another reaction that requires a lot. Alex often eats a lot of sugar before going into battle.

Electricity: Powerful, and one attack that he can actually choose whether to be fatal or not. So far he has never used it in a fatal manner. Fairly simple one. Quite draining.

Alex's attacks generally tend towards the power-wasting side, though they do make up for it in quality. A straight-up punch probably would be more efficient than a lot of the stuff he tries to pull. Now if only he weren't a kid who is physically worse off than most of his opponents. Oh well.

Non-canonical abilities: One might notice that what with Alex's ability to manipulate chemical reactions he could theoretically speed up reactions in the human body in which he was VERY familiar with the exact circumstances. Like, for example, the speed of the human brain. This is of course completely ridiculous and highly risky, though boy, if someone had an ability like that, they'd be able to think slightly faster in battle, wouldn't they?
